We Have The Business Down

If we did not see a huge missed opportunity to create and own a new and better approach to the dental industry so many lives would benefit from we never would have started FLOSS. Like so many other dentists that had done it on their without being connected to a larger corporate entity or brand name, all we had were the negatives that go along with being a part of a larger entity, most of them we found only to be perceived.

When it dawned on us that the only way we could offer our patients the very latest technology and services while remaining most profitable was by being part of something larger, we looked for it. When we kept finding dental groups that did not have all of the things that FLOSS stands for today as priorities, we created our own model and brand. The pillars we are building the brand on have only grown since we have begun. Brand equity and awareness grows with every new location and market we add to the family.

Retail Dental is Always On the Rise

In 2020 everyone who owned a business faced challenges on a level that they had never seen before. With the risk of passing along a viral infection with the ability to kill those who are most vulnerable to it, businesses found themselves either doing more to ensure the safety of their employees and loyal customers (patients), or temporarily not able to operate because of government restrictions in their area altogether.

The dental industry faced challenges during this time, and continues to face challenges with maintaining the numbers they were able to prior to COVID-19. The good news is this—unlike other industries like the restaurant industry that have various options to deliver and provide their services, you still have to work on someone’s mouth to provide them with dental services. Although restrictions were put in place for some of our locations, dental services are a necessity. The industry continues to work to ensure that dentists do not experience down time during the worst of times.

Dental is a Goat

During the last five years the dental industry saw consistent growth year over year. When you look at the numbers, dental services demand steadily grows as population numbers continue to increase and the demand for services grows in parallel with that. Compared with other healthcare services based businesses dental ranks fourth for consistent growth. Although demand for some healthcare services fluctuates dental continues to rise.

As the economic outlook changes and weathers significant challenges as they unfold it will be important to ensure you are operating a business, and a brand, that weathers the storm better than others. We have already seen several of our units and how they will handle when the market is down and less people are able to afford to keep up with their dental services. Everything FLOSS has done allows them to pivot well when times are tough.

Dental Always Evolves

Hey, we get it that when a hamburger chain releases a new hamburger recipe that seems to defy all familiarity we have with tasting the best hamburger, it gets our attention. But beyond that, some industries are pretty stodgy and their evolution only goes so far. The dental industry is not like that at all and patients’ demand for what their dentists do to evolve seems to grow every day. Our owner operators enjoy being in a business that must always remain fresh.

This constant evolution means that the dental industry will always be in a state where a company can come in and take over control of a large portion of the population that receives its services. That is an exciting place to be. It isn’t for everyone but FLOSS owners love this about the business. Given that patients will always expect more there will forever be a need for dentists to further hone and perfect their craft. We all should want to be in that business.
